What is BroadBand Light Therapy?

BroadBand Light Therapy is a safe, non-invasive, light-based treatment that can be tailored to address signs of aging, sun damage, acne, and so much more in as little as one session. Our BBL® HERO™️ utilizes the most advanced light technology to deliver a high-energy treatment in minutes.

What to expect.

You’ll need to wear protective eyewear throughout the treatment to shield your eyes from a bright flash that comes with every pulse of light. Expect to feel a mild warmth or slight stinging as the BBL® Hero™️ device gently penetrates your skin. The treatment is very well tolerated by the majority of our patients. Following the treatment, the treated area(s) might look flushed, similar to a sunburn, which typically subsides within a few hours to a few days.

The science of BroadBand Light Therapy.

Broadband Light Therapy uses various wavelengths of light to deliver heat at different skin depths, causing selective damage to target cells and promoting skin rejuvenation. This treatment reduces dark discoloration and redness and improves signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles.

BroadBand Light Therapy (BBL) FAQs
  • Is BroadBand Light Therapy safe for all skin tones?

BroadBand Light Therapy may be used on a wide range of skin types and tones. The risk of experiencing negative side effects depends largely on the skill of your clinician. Our Clinical Leadership team holds best-in-class standard protocols for safety, experience, and training.

  • What is recovery from BroadBand Light Therapy like?

The treatment area may be flushed for several hours after treatment. A sunburn-like sensation in treated areas is common. Cool compresses and aloe gel may be used until the sensation subsides. Age spots, freckles, and pigmented areas will darken within days and eventually flake off after about a week. Once the treated area is thoroughly exfoliated, your skin will look smoother, brighter, and even-toned, with smaller pores and fewer lines. Be sure to apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater daily to help prevent the recurrence of brown and red spots.

  • How many BroadBand Light Therapy treatments will I need?

Results can be seen after one treatment, but additional treatments may be needed depending on the patient’s skin goals. To maximize and extend treatment results, we recommend limiting excessive sun exposure and applying SPF daily.

  • What does BroadBand Light Therapy feel like?

Patients often compare the feeling of broadband light treatment to a rubber band snapping against the skin.

Things to Keep In Mind for Treatment

  1. Ideally patients should avoid excessive sun exposure 2-4 weeks prior to treatment for optimal safety and effectiveness of the treatment.
  2. Avoid using skincare products that disrupt the skin barrier, like retinoids or exfoliants, for 7 days prior to your service to prevent skin sensitization.
  3. Inform your clinician if you’ve taken isotretinoin or Accutane in the past six months or have any medical conditions or medications that might cause sensitivity to light or affect wound healing.
