What is Breast Lift surgery?

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to elevate and reshape sagging breasts. During the procedure, excess skin is removed, and the breast tissue is tightened and repositioned to create a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing contour. The nipple and areola may also be repositioned to a higher, more natural position.

How does Breast Lift surgery work?

The surgeon makes incisions, typically around the areola, vertically, or in an anchor shape, depending on the degree of sagging. Excess skin and tissue are removed, and the remaining breast tissue is tightened and repositioned. The nipples and areolas are often moved to a higher position. After closing the incisions with sutures, the patient enters a recovery period involving some swelling and discomfort, managed through medication and care instructions.

Breast Lift FAQs
  • How long does a Breast Lift procedure take?

A breast lift procedure typically takes between 1.5 to 3 hours to complete. The exact duration depends on factors such as the complexity of the case, the specific techniques used, and whether any additional procedures, like breast augmentation or reduction, are performed simultaneously.

  • What is the recovery time for a Breast Lift?

Women may experience varying degrees of discomfort after a breast lift, however any discomfort can be effectively managed with the proper pain medication. A surgical bra or compression garment will be worn for one month to help reduce post-operative swelling. Most women find they are able to return to work a week or so following surgery. However, heavy lifting may be restricted for up to eight weeks.

  • Can a Breast Lift be combined with implants?

Many women consider a breast lift to be a more natural breast augmentation choice, however a breast lift can also be achieved through the use of implants. In addition to lifting the breast, the implants add volume and fullness as well.

  • What will my Breast Lift incisions and scars look like?

A breast lift typically requires three incisions to raise and reshape the natural breast for a fuller, more youthful profile. However, only one incision, the vertical incision, is usually visible after the breast has fully healed. Breast lift scars typically fade to a pencil-thin line; most women are so pleased with the result of the breast lift that the remaining, light-colored scar is of little concern.
