What is radiofrequency microneedling?

The Lutronic Genius is an innovative radiofrequency microneedling system that provides dramatic anti-aging results for a smoother, firmer, more refreshed appearance. This revolutionary skincare treatment utilizes gold-plated needles and advanced technology to precisely deliver radiofrequency energy to the proper depths of the skin. It is designed for skin rejuvenation and tightening and is perfect for acne scarring, fine lines, sagging, skin tone, and texture. Radiofrequency microneedling is available at The Skin Center in Pittsburgh, PA, Columbus, and Cleveland, OH!

How does radiofrequency microneedling work?

The procedure involves the use of a device equipped with tiny, sterile needles that create micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body’s healing response, promoting collagen and elastin production. Simultaneously, the device delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy deep into the dermis, further enhancing the skin’s remodeling process. The combination of microneedling and RF energy leads to more dramatic results compared to traditional microneedling alone.
Radiofrequency Microneedling FAQs
  • Is radiofrequency microneedling safe?

Yes, RF microneedling is considered safe for most skin types. However, it is important to have a consultation with a qualified provider to ensure the treatment is appropriate for your specific skin type and concerns.

  • How many treatments will I need?

Most patients see noticeable improvements after 1-2 treatments, but for optimal results, a series of 3-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is typically recommended. The exact number of sessions will depend on your skin condition and desired results.

  • Does radiofrequency microneedling hurt?

Before the procedure, a topical numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort. During the treatment, you may feel a slight tingling or warming sensation, but most patients find it to be tolerable.

  • What can I expect after the treatment?

You may experience some redness, swelling, and mild tenderness in the treated area, similar to a sunburn, for 1-2 days after the procedure. Minor peeling or flaking may also occur. These side effects typically subside within a few days.

  • Is there any downtime after RF microneedling?

The downtime is minimal, with most patients able to resume normal activities within 24-48 hours. However, it’s important to avoid sun exposure and apply sunscreen regularly to protect the healing skin.

  • When will I see results?

Improvements in skin texture, firmness, and tone can usually be seen within a few weeks, with continued improvement over the next few months as collagen production increases. Full results are typically visible after 3-6 months.

  • How long do the results last?

Results can last up to 1-2 years, depending on factors such as your skin type, age, and skincare routine. Maintenance treatments are recommended once a year to maintain the results.

Things to Keep In Mind for Treatment

  1. Avoid direct sun exposure for 2-4 weeks prior to your treatment.
  2. Apply a daily sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater and reapply as needed.
  3. Passive sun exposure is acceptable, but tanning, outside or in a tanning bed, is not. You cannot be treated if you have a sunburn, recently tanned, or sunless tanner on your skin.
  4. Avoid the following active ingredients in treatment areas 7 days prior to treatment: topical retinoids (e.g., Retin-A, tretinoin, adapalene), vitamin C, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid. If you are concerned about any of the products you are using, please ask your provider.
  5. If you have had other skin rejuvenation procedures in the past month, please discuss with your provider to ensure adequate spacing of treatments.
